The Artist Spotlight is your inside look into the influences, collaborations and prompts that drive the NightCafe community.
We catch up with some of our most original creators to find what inspires them, who their favorite creators are, and how they use image generator algorithms as part of their work.
NC: WHAT INFLUENCES YOUR WORK?
What influences my work depends on what sounds the most interesting (and fun) at any given time.
It can be different words bouncing around in my head, people making offhand comments about the difficulties of generating specific types of pieces, or even a desire to take an algorithm and see if I can break it in half.
There's no shortage of inspirational material.
NC: MOST UNDERRATED ARTIST ON NIGHTCAFE?
I'm very much a hermit of a user on the site, so checking my feeds is something that I rarely do.
With that said my favorite underrated artist would be @Josh_Musikantow. It's a bit of an odd choice, given that his profile has over 5k followers and 70k likes.
But his output is extremely frequent and covers an extensive range of topics, most of which are unconventional. To me, that is always a user worth following.
NC: PROMPT THAT MOST SURPRISED YOU?
This is a really tough question. Almost all of my creations are half "I know exactly what I'm doing and what I want" and half "let's throw these modifiers at the prompt and see how they work!". With that said, a creation that most prominently comes to mind is:
--
**Adansito Masterpiece** # deeply vibrant and hyperdetailed "Quantum Particulates" ? Subatomic Rendering, long exposure :: 3D volumetric shading, 3DEXPERIENCE, microscopic-bioscape %% [[perfection, mind-blowing, masterful shot]].
--
At some point, I figured out that DALL-E 2 doesn't care what you have in your prompt, as long as something is there. Naturally, this led to me interspersing chunks of punctuation with lines of text, which led to this prompt and subsequent result.
I've never been able to replicate this visual effect since then, which is a shame, because it feels especially unique and imposing.
NC: ANY TIPS FOR PROMPT WRITING?
The most important prompt advice that I can give to any user is this: Never forget your creative voice.
Refine it, evolve it, and nurture it like your very own mental garden, but never forget what made your artwork tick in the first place.
Aside from that, don't be afraid to leave your comfort zone. Try out new algorithms and new ideas, even with things that you might initially balk at doing.
Who knows? You might discover that it's really enjoyable — and if not, at least you tried.
NC: WHAT LED YOU TO USING NIGHTCAFE?
I discovered NightCafé via Reddit, during the first major influx of users to the site in early October of 2021.
For me, it was both something exciting to undertake, seeing as I had never attempted AI-generated artwork before, while also allowing me to become a part of a growing community of users from all across the globe.
Since then, NightCafé has always felt quite special to me, and I hope it continues to be in the years to come.
